Leech Protection

Leech protection is a security feature provided by cPanel to prevent unauthorized access to secure areas of your website. When users publicly share their login credentials, it puts their accounts at risk of being compromised. Leeching refers to the act of using these shared credentials to gain unauthorized access.

To mitigate this risk, cPanel allows you to enable leech protection for specific directories on your website. This feature limits the number of times a user can log in to a secure area within a two-hour period. For example, you can set a limit of four logins per user in a two-hour timeframe.

Enabling leech protection is a straightforward process in cPanel. Here are the steps:

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Navigate to the Leech Protection tool, which can be found in the Security section.                                       Leech protection
  3. Select the directory you want to protect.
  4. Click on the Edit button.
  5. Set the number of logins allowed per username in a two-hour period.
  6. Optionally, you can specify a URL to redirect compromised accounts or enable email alerts for compromised accounts.
  7. Click Enable to activate leech protection for the selected directory.

If you want to disable leech protection for a directory, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Go to the Leech Protection tool in the Security section.                                                                                          Leech Prot.png
  3. Select the directory for which you want to disable leech protection.
  4. Click on the Edit button.

By enabling leech protection, you can enhance the security of your website and protect against unauthorized access to sensitive areas.
