Using Server Rewind to restore e-mail

Turnuphosting servers have redundant hard drives that provide real-time RAID 1 mirrored backups. Additionally, off-server backups are also provided, which are stored for the last 30 days on a best-effort basis. To restore from these backups, users can utilize the Server Rewind feature in cPanel.

While Turnuphosting offers backup solutions, it is recommended that users maintain their own backups as well. If users choose to create backups using the cPanel Backup feature, it is advised not to save multiple copies of backups on the hosting account.

To restore email using Server Rewind, follow these steps:

  1. Before using Server Rewind, back up your email off-site and remove the mail directory from the account entirely. One way to back up email is by setting up a client application to access your accounts using POP, which downloads all email messages locally to your computer.
  2. Log in to cPanel.
  3. Open Server Rewind. If you are using the Jupiter theme, go to the Tools page, find the Files section, and click on the Server Rewind icon.
  4. Select the date that contains the emails you want to restore. To expand a date, click the "+" icon.
  5. Choose the mail directory.
  6. Make sure to leave the "Restore into this location in my home directory" text box empty.
  7. Click "Restore!" to initiate the restoration process.

The time required to complete the restore process depends on factors such as directory size, the number and size of files, and other variables. After the mail directory is restored, confirm the presence of the "etc/example.com" directory, where "example.com" represents the user's domain name. This directory contains the login information for email accounts. If there are no files in the directory, select the "etc" directory in Server Rewind and click "Restore!" again.

By following these steps, users can effectively restore their email using the Server Rewind feature in cPanel.
